Mobile

It was back in 2009 that I began my cockpit project. Everything was installed in the attic and was reserved for my own private needs. But over time, there were several friends who spend time flying in the simulator. That's why I got the idea to mount the simulator cockpit inside a caravan.
So from being a privately cockpit, it is now
occasionally a public simulator cockpit where there are offered free simulator rides for those interested.

And the purpose of the simulator is now to promote understanding and interest in aviation, in an unconventional, fun and interesting way.
Therefore there are on my Danish site information about events and a option to download documents that can provide understanding of flight, aircraft systems and the physics behind it all.

DC9 MD-80 aircraft autopilot

MD-80

In 1977 there is a major upgrade of DC9 to model DC9-80, also called "The Super 80" or just MD-80, this was to meet the market demand for less pollution, noise and improved fuel economy for there where a oil crises. The new model was longer and could take more passengers, the plane has larger wings and new engines and could now fly farther on fuel, was quieter and was not so expensive to run than the older DC9-50.

The cockpit was upgraded with the latest instrumentation and mechanical instruments were replaced with screens and digital displays. The autopilot was upgraded and MD80 was the first passenger airplane with digital flight control system and with the possibility of HUD (Head Up Display). MD-80 was a great success with 1191 built aircraft, delivered to 69 different airlines over a period of 21 years.

Cockpit

Since the project is 100% non-commercial, I have chosen to save money by building components and equipment myself, and to find unconventional solutions. This means that I have a good result with a very small budget. For example all PCs are old and is only single core, with onbord graphics card and are actually scrap computers which should have be thrown out.

The entire system uses Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 as a platform. I could also choose to use the newer and better program, Microsoft Flight Simulator X were the graphics is better, but this requires powerful computers with more RAM, faster CPU and a good graphics card and that i do not have.

But everyone who comes in and gets a tour are feeling well entertained. So many come back for another turn, if there are a free seat available.
